SpaceHey (stylized as SpaceHey or spacehey) is a social network that reboots the original aesthetic of the once-popular social network Myspace.[1] The social network features customizable profile pages, personal blogs and status updates and was established in late 2020.[2]
History
SpaceHey was made by An, an 18-year-old high school graduate from Germany as part of a startup called "Tibush".[3] On November 29, 2020, the Social Network was launched.[4] It was awarded #1 Product of the Day on Product Hunt on the same day.[5]
On January 21, 2021, SpaceHey announced on Twitter that they reached 50,000 users and were nominated for the "Product Hunt Golden Kitty Awards".[6] Later they shared that they did not win this award.[7] On February 26, SpaceHey tweeted that they have reached 100,000 users.[8] As of February 27, 2021, SpaceHey.com has an Alexa Rank of 68,473.[9] According to BuzzFeed, SpaceHey is now at 120 000 users as of April 19, 2021.[3] A big part of the SpaceHey userbase is formed by poets and musicians.[10]
Features
SpaceHey's main focus lies on personalization and privacy.[4] SpaceHey allows users to publish blog entries, post bulletins (posts, which can only be viewed by friends and expire after 10 days) and engage in different, category-based forums.[11] In order to be able to add a friend, the other person has to accept the user's friend request. More features are planned to be added in the future.[12] All content is shown chronologically or reverse-chronologically and there are no algorithms recommending content to users.[13] SpaceHey allows its users to customize their profiles with custom HTML and CSS code.[14]There is currently no mobile App for SpaceHey.[15]
