Summary

Appy Pie is a low-code development platform that allows people to create and monetize apps. According to its creators, the App Builder platform was designed to be easily accessible to inexperienced people.[4]  It is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Fire OS platforms.[5]

History

Appy Pie was founded by Abhinav Girdhar.[6] He made the app due to customer requests for low-cost app development.[7] As of August 2017, the company has three offices in Virginia, London, and New Delhi, as well as approximately 235 employees.[8] In August 2017, a new rule on iTunes appeared that prohibits applications without source code from the store. Girdhar argued that this would hurt the ability of small companies to make apps.[9]

In May 2016, the app maker launched a reseller program for Appy Pie that allows people to create white-label apps.[10] Later, the application received support for more types of applications, including image sharing, event platform, and social media.[11] In February 2017, Appy Pie added augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality features. These features include image recognition and tracking, as well as a 360 video and panoramic viewer. of real estate agents. In July 2017, Appy Pie added "Sheets," a feature that allows users to "link all your Google Sheets and Forms into one app for real-time editing." In August 2017, Appy Pie launched Room Booking, Real Estate, and Custom Events as part of the platform.[12] The company keeps adding features on its platform, In June 2019, a Chatbot creator was added as a feature in Appy Pie.[13]

Reception

A 2014 Los Angeles Times article quotes competitor Alexandra Keating as saying that Appy Pie and other similar mobile apps "lacked elegance".[14]  It was selected by India Times as an example of a program that helps you make your own apps.[15]

Johna Revesencio for " The Huffington Post " recommended Appy Pie for people who lack coding skills and want to develop an app.  Entrepreneur AJ Agrawal named Appy Pie his favorite non-technical software tool of 2015.  Macworld writer Sarah Jacobsson Purewal featured Appy Pie in an article covering "DIY" app creation tools (for its acronym in English Do It Yourself). She noted that it was simple and easy for beginners to use. However, she added that its simplicity can lead to less creative and more limited design concepts.[16] GamesBeat editor Jeff Grubb noted that while Appy Pie's Game Builder tool was more complex than Code.org, which teaches people how to code a clone of Flappy Bird , the end result is almost the same.[1] In an article for " Los Angeles Times " by Paresh Dave, the founder of the app creation program DWNLD (a competing app maker) noted that the excessive simplicity of tools like Appy Pie led her to create the app.[14]  Writer Paula Mooney criticized the app for advertising that its game-creating feature is free, but only for very limited features.[17] According to David Ramei of ADT Mag, research firm "Clutch" ranked Appy Pie among the top "DIY app coding tools". Ramei later noted that the name Appy Pie "may not garner much respect in the traditional development community...(it) advances the company."[18]  In a ranking of the best apps for creating apps, Appy Pie was runner-up. Author Sara Angeles highlighted its connectivity features and business applications.  Business.com staff gave it a positive review, praising it for its clean interface and ease of use.
