Social:Right-wing patriotism
Right-wing patriotism, alternatively known as right-wing nationalism, is a right-wing political ideology based on the foundations of patriotism and neo-nationalism. The concept is also heavily intertwined with right-wing populism. Usage of the term varies from country to country.
By country
Russia
In Russia , Vladimir Putin claimed that liberalism had become obsolete.[1] This led some people to claim that liberals need to reclaim patriotism as a part of their ideology.[2] Russian nationalism, a belief that has been mostly right-wing throughout time, has also been described as "patriotic".[3] Patriotic "mobilisation" has also occurred in Russia.[4] On the other side, some people in Russia have claimed "Russian State Patriotism" has hurt Russian nationalism.[5] Right-wing patriotism in Russia also exists in the media.[6]
United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom , the Labour Party has been criticized for failing to beat right-wing British patriots just by flag-waving.[7] The Conservative Party has also been associated with British patriotism as well.[8] English nationalism and English patriotism have also been called threats to the United Kingdom's existence.[9]
United States
In the United States , various have defended the notion of patriotism alongside conservatism. City Journal, a conservative policy magazine, attempted to defend patriotism under a right-wing context against liberalism in an article they titled "It's Hard to be a Patriot".[10] Dissent, an American left-wing magazine, claimed that right-wing patriotism in the United States became an issue after the September 11 attacks during the War on terror.[11] Another American news outlet, Vox, also partially defended right-wing patriotism in its statements about how the American Left should embrace American patriotism and American nationalism.[12] Vox has also made statements claiming that right-wing patriotism and anti-Americanism are linked.[13]
