Brandman Faculty and Staff, Irvine, CA

Brandman University is a private university with over 25 campuses throughout California and Washington (state) [3] and a virtual campus online. The university offers more than 50 degree, certificate, credential and professional programs for working adults.[2]

Brandman is a separate, regionally accredited university within the Chapman University System.[4] Gary Brahm is the appointed Chancellor of Brandman University.

History

Mayor Larry Agran, Irvine, Chancellor Brahm, Joyce Brandman and Former Chapman University President Jim Doti.

In 1958, Brandman was established by Chapman University in Orange, California. Formerly named Chapman University College, Brandman's original purpose was delivering education to the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, California. In 2009, it was renamed Brandman University after a substantial donation from the Joyce and Saul Brandman Foundation.[5][6]

Military friendly

Brandman is a "Military-Friendly School" according to G.I. Jobs Magazine and Military.com[7] and a Yellow Ribbon School.[8] Brandman University offers reduced tuition rates for active military, their spouses and dependents. Brandman has campuses on military bases at Naval Base Kitsap Bangor,[9] Naval Air Station Lemoore,[10] Joint Base Lewis-McChord,[11] Travis Air Force Base ,[12] and the Navy Campus Education Center at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.[13]

Academics

The university offers degree programs through five schools: The Marybelle and S. Paul Musco School of Nursing and Health Professions; School of Education; School of Business and Professional Studies; School of Arts and Sciences; and School of Extended Education.

Brandman uses a curriculum model known as iDEAL (Instructional Design for Engaged Adult Learning).[14] According to a study by the Lumina Foundation, iDEAL addresses both the flexibility and learning methodology preferred by adult learners.[15] iDEAL combines traditional classroom instruction with e-learning activities.[16] Courses are available as hybrid (combined in-person and online formats), fully online or competency-based via Brandman MyPath.[17] Brandman does not have a library. All of its faculty positions are non-tenured.[18]

The university is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)[19] and is a member of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL).[20] Additionally, the School of Nursing and Health Professions follows the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) standards and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).[19] Teacher training programs offered through the School of Education are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC)[21] and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).[22] The undergraduate social work program is accredited by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).[23]
