Zipcube is an online marketplace enabling people to lease or rent short-term professional spaces such as meeting rooms, conference space, Office space, Work space and event space. The company does not own any spaces, it acts as a broker and receives percentage service fees (commissions) from the venues for every booking. Zipcube operates in cities throughout Europe and the United States .[2]

Zipcube can be accessed online via the Zipcube website.Venues are filtered with search criteria like location, price, seating arrangements, and number of guest.[3] Zipcubes's profits come from charging users the venue price and collects commission from the venue.[4]

History

Zipcube was founded in December 2013 by Guillaume Santacruz on Google's Campus London, located in East London Tech City,[5] when Santacruz noticed the complexity involved in setting up meetings, thus prompting him to develop a service that allowed users to directly book venues and cut down enquiry times.[6] Santacruz was soon joined by William Dugdale, who brought technical expertise to the team following periods working in software architecture at HSBC and Imperial College London.[7]

Over the next two years Zipcube competed in many startup competitions and accelerator programs to grow the business. In 2014 Zipcube competed in the Think Digital Start-Up Competition and finished first.[8] Then in 2015, Zipcube decided to participate in PayPal and Braintree's 6 month Start Tank program.[9] Start Tank offered mentors and access to venture capitalist to help get the start-up off the ground. After 6 months, Zipcube finished first in the accelerator program. Over the next year Zipcube worked on establishing itself in the UK market. Once this was done, Zipcube decided to expand into the French, German, and US markets.
