Submerged Dragon (Qian-Long, 潜龙) 1 AUV is a very little known autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) developed in the People's Republic of China (PRC) by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]and it is the first member of Submerged Dragon series AUV (also referred as Hidden Dragon based on translation), and more models have been developed based on Submerged Dragon 1 AUV.

Submerged Dragon 1

Submerged Dragon 1 AUV was a project of Chinese 12th Five Year Plan, and program begun in November 2011, and was completed in December 2012, and the AUV finally entered service in 2013.[2][3][4][5][9][10]China had jointly developed several AUVs with Russia earlier, such as WZODA AUV, CR-01, CR-01A, and CR-02 AUVs.[4]Despite the successful development of these jointly developed AUVs, none of them entered series production[4]because technological bottleneck China had faced back then: China had to rely on Russia for critical components, which caused delay and difficulties in production, as well as in maintenance when parts cannot be supplied in a timely manner to meet customer need. As a result, China decided not to put these jointly developed AUVs in series production, but instead, develop a fully indigenous Chinese AUV for production based on experienced gained, resulting in domestic Chinese Submerged Dragon series AUVs,[4]with SIA as the lead of the development team.[1][4][6]The general designer of Submerged Dragon is Mr. Xu Huixi (徐会希).[2][3][9][10]Specification:[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

Submerged Dragon 4

Although Submerged Dragon 2 and Submerged Dragon 3 are both developed from Submerged Dragon 1, they differ drastically from Submerged Dragon 1 externally in that both adopts fish-shaped hull.[2][3][9][10]In contrast, Submerged Dragon 4 has returned to the original hull form by adopting a torpedo-shaped cylindrical hull with X-rudder, just like the original Submerged Dragon 1.[2]Furthermore, the maximum operating depth of Submerged Dragon 4 is also equal to that of Submerged Dragon 1, as opposed to reduced maximum operating depth of Submerged Dragon 2 and 3.[2][3][9][10][11]Submerged Dragon 4 entered service in 2020.[2][3][9][10][11]Specification:[2][3][9][10][11]
