Chronology
PredecessorERF C-Series

The ERF E-Series were a series of medium-duty trucks produced by ERF from 1985 to 1995. The truck replaced the ERF C-Series range which was discontinued in 1985. In total around 68,000 of these trucks were produced and sold, which were lower than the sales of the C-Series trucks, so the E-Series was not very profitable and thus the last medium-duty truck produced by the ERF company.

The truck did not shared many components with its predecessors, although some chassis components were the same. Originally the truck was supposed to be replaced by a newer truck, but eventually it was never replaced by newer truck, since at that time the heavier-duty market was more profitable for the company and the company fully abandoned that market after the truck's discontinuation, focusing only on heavy-duty trucks.

History

In 1982 the company decided to create a new truck under the E-Series name, originally intended as a lighter version of the ERF C-Series trucks, however, the work on the truck stopped a few months later, since the ERF C-Series trucks were selling very good and a lighter variant was not necessarily needed. In 1985 the ERF C-Series trucks were discontinued and the E-Series trucks started getting produced, but as a replacement for the ERF C-Series trucks and not as a lighter variant.

The E-Series trucks did sell well initially, but as time passed, sales fell off and in 1992 only 10,000 vehicles were sold, but the company was still profitable due to the B-Series trucks, which were very popular. Nevertheless, the truck was discontinued in 1995 with no direct replacement. In 1996 Western Star bought the ERF company, and tried creating a replacement for the E-Series range but eventually nothing came out of it.
