Design and Description

The Argie 15 is a lightweight plywood dinghy that is intended for family day sailing, fishing, and rowing. The boat was designed in 1988 by Dudley Dix. A number of additional sheets have been added to the plans since then, including a conceptual layout for a centerboard instead of the standard daggerboard and enclosed bench seats for improved comfort and flotation. The Argie 15 can be constructed by using the stitch and glue method.[1] According to designer, Dudley Dix, more than 3,000 Argie 15 dinghies have been built worldwide.

The standard sailing rig for the Argie 15 is a sloop configuration with a 42 sq ft jib and 59 sq ft main sail. Builders have widely customized the standard Argie 15 design to fit their own requirements, including using a balanced lug rig, adding lockers, creating scuppered gunwales, and installing a fore-deck.
