Emperoptera is a genus of flightless flies in the Dolichopodidae family. This genera is endemic to the Hawaiian islands, and are characterized by their lack of wings. After the introduction of invasive ants and other alien species such as wild boar (Sus scrofa) [1] to the islands, 4 of the 5 species are believed extinct.[2]

Emperoptera has sometimes been considered a synonym of Campsicnemus. Most recently, Neal Evenhuis in 2010 proposed that the genus be considered a synonym of Campsicnemus once again based on morphological and molecular evidence.[3]
