T.K. Abdullah is an Islamic scholar and senior leader of Jamate Islami, Kerala.[1] He was a founding member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.[2]

Early life and education

T.K. Abdullah was born in 1929 at Ayancheri,[1][2] a village in Kozhikode District. He completed his education from various Islamic institutes.[2] While he was studying at Aliya college, Kasargode, he joined in Prabodhanam journal in 1950.


career

Editor

After joining in Prabodhanam on 1950, he became deputy chief editor in 1959. In 1964, while Prabodhanam weekly started, Abdullah was the first Chief Editor[1] till 1995. Later he joined Bodhanam Quarterly journal as its chief editor.

Literary works

He contributed to translate two volumes of Tafhim-ul-Quran to malayalam.[3][4][5] Currently he is Chief editor of ‘’’Islamic Encyclopedia Project’’’ being published by Islamic Publishing House.[6][7][8][9] He wrote some books such as ‘’Nadannu theeratha vazhikalil’’, ‘’Navothana dharmangal’’,[10] ‘’Nazhikakallukal’’, ‘’Iqbaline kandethal’’[11] etc.

Jamate Islami Leader

After getting membership in Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in 1959, he reached the top position in kerala Jamat (President-Amir)[12][1] for 1972-1979 and 1982-1984 periods. During his leadership, Jamate Islami kerala faced the Emergency of 1975. Many of its leaders were jailed during the emergency, including T.K. Abdullah. He is being a member of ‘’’Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora’’’ of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 1972 till now.[13]
