Nicolás Atanes Santos (born April 2004[1]) is a Spanish mathematical activist who is increasing awareness about the importance of math. He organized an action in February 2020 to raise the awareness of the importance of mathematics in the streets of Pamplona, Spain.[2]
Biography
Atanes started a social movement in February 2020 called Virus Matemático, after organizing a protest on 2 February 2020 in Pamplona supporting mathematics.[3][4]
When Spain came out of COVID-19 lockdown, Atanes traveled to Madrid to meet with the education counselor of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio.[5] Atanes organized on December 6 a math games initiative, named the December Action.[6][7] The initiative was online due to the pandemic, and about 500 people attended the event.[8]
